In his address, Msgr. S. Jayanathan highlighted the growing importance of skill education in today’s competitive world. He emphasised that academic knowledge combined with practical skills empowers students to become confident, self-reliant, and employable. He encouraged students to identify their talents, develop life skills, and continually upgrade themselves to meet future challenges.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel, appreciating the resource person, management, staff, and students for their active participation. The programme was inspiring and meaningful for all participants.

A motivational session on the Importance of Skill Education was held on Wednesday, 4th January 2026. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, symbolising the dispelling of darkness and the invocation of God’s presence, followed by a prayer song seeking the Lord’s blessings.
Rev. Fr. Deepak Joseph, Director of SJIS, formally welcomed the resource person, Msgr. S. Jayanathan, Secretary-cum-Treasurer of ABE, expressing gratitude for his presence and guidance.

Students actively participated in athletic events including 100 m, 200 m, 1500 m, 4×100 m relay, long jump, and shot put, along with group games such as cricket, volleyball, throwball, football, shuttle badminton, and tug of war. The enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and teamwork displayed were truly commendable.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Prashanth Prem Kumar and Rev. Fr. Sathyanathan. The Annual Sports Meet proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for all SJIS students.

SJIS organised its Annual Sports Meet for the students on Wednesday, 28 January, and Thursday, 29 January 2025. The first day was dedicated to track and field events, while the second day focused on group games.
On 29 January, the Annual Sports Meet was formally inaugurated by Dr. Malques Arokyanathan, Principal of YMCA Physical Education College, Bengaluru, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Rev. Fr. Deepak Joseph, Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel Basu, and the Sports Coordinators Mr. Suresh and Mrs. Sreelathan.

SJIS organized Christmas Crib and Greeting Card Making Competitions on 16th December 2025. Students from each skill training participated as teams and enthusiastically showcased their creativity. They exhibited their talents through innovative decorations and by preparing Christmas cribs based on their respective skill training themes.
The headmistresses of St. Joseph’s Primary School and High School served as judges for the competitions. The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Deepak Joseph, Director of SJIS, and Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel Basu, Principal and Associate Director of SJIS. The competitions encouraged teamwork, creativity, and festive spirit among the students, making the event a memorable part of the Christmas celebrations.

SJIS organized an awareness program exclusively for SJIS girls on the topic of the reproductive system, health, and hygiene on 15th December 2025. The program aimed to educate and empower students with accurate knowledge about their physical development, personal health, and hygienic practices.
Dr Sreelakshmi G. served as the resource person for the session. She explained the functioning of the reproductive system in a clear and age-appropriate manner and emphasized the importance of maintaining proper health and hygiene. The session was informative and interactive, allowing students to clarify their doubts and gain confidence in understanding their bodies. The program was well-received and proved to be beneficial in promoting awareness and healthy practices among the students.

SJIS organized a comprehensive awareness program on the elimination of violence against women, in collaboration with ActionAid NGO. The sessions were conducted separately for girls on December 4, 2025, and for boys on December 9, 2025.
The program aimed to educate students on gender sensitivity, promote respectful behaviour, and empower them to recognize and prevent all forms of violence and discrimination.

SJIS organized an Autism Awareness Program on November 20, 2025. The session was facilitated by resource persons from ASHA (Academy for Severe Handicaps and Autism) — Ms Soniya, Mrs Sindhu, and Mrs Priya.
Their interactive presentations helped raise awareness about autism, highlighted early signs, and offered effective strategies for supporting children with diverse needs. The program provided valuable insights for teachers, students, and parents, reinforcing the importance of inclusion and understanding.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, St. Joseph’s Church organized the Mission Sunday Food Fest 2025. As part of this event, the SJIS Hotel Management students actively participated by preparing a variety of delicious recipes and setting up a food stall to showcase and sell their dishes.
The proceeds from the stall were contributed to the Parish, to be forwarded in support of mission activities and to help people in need. The event not only highlighted the culinary skills of the students but also encouraged them to take part in a meaningful cause.

On November 8, 2025, ActionAid NGO organized an awareness rally to highlight the urgent issue of human trafficking. As part of this initiative, they launched a Bike Multi-Challenge Ride, beginning from Bangalore and continuing all the way to Mumbai. The rally aimed to raise public awareness, promote community responsibility, and advocate for the protection of vulnerable individuals.
The event saw enthusiastic participation not only from riders across India but also from international participants, showing global solidarity in the fight against human trafficking. Students from St. Joseph’s Institute of Skills also actively took part in this event, contributing their energy and support to the cause. Their involvement added great value to the awareness mission and demonstrated the commitment of young people toward building a safer and more just society.

From October 27 to 31, 2025, SJIS organized a series of Industry Visits for the students. The visits provided valuable exposure to real-world industrial environments and helped students connect classroom learning with practical applications in their respective skill-oriented programs.

On October 31, 2025, SJIS organized a Community Building Program for the hostel girls. The session was conducted by Sr. Nirmala, SMMI, who served as the resource person. Through interactive activities and group discussions, she emphasized the importance of understanding, cooperation, and mutual respect in building a harmonious hostel community.
The program helped the students strengthen their relationships and develop a deeper sense of unity and belonging.

The Trimester Examinations for the students of St. Joseph’s Institute of Skills (SJIS) were held from Monday, October 13, to Saturday, October 18, 2025. The exams included both theory and practical components, assessing students’ academic understanding as well as their hands-on skills in their respective fields of study. Students appeared for the exams with seriousness and dedication, reflecting their preparation and commitment. The examination process was conducted in an organized and systematic manner, ensuring fairness and smooth execution. This evaluation served as a key academic checkpoint, helping students and faculty gauge progress and identify areas for further improvement.

St. Joseph’s Institute of Skills (SJIS) organized an awareness program on Love & Infatuation on Thursday, October 9, 2025. The session aimed to help students understand the nuances of interpersonal relationships, particularly distinguishing between genuine love and fleeting infatuation. Rev. Fr. Christopher White, Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, Cleveland Town, Bangalore, conducted an engaging and insightful session. Using relatable examples and real-life scenarios, he effectively explained the differences between love and infatuation.

SJIS proudly organised “Pratibha”, an individual talent show, on Wednesday, 26th September 2025, providing an enthusiastic platform for students to exhibit and celebrate their unique talents. The event was a vibrant display of creativity, skill, and confidence, reflecting the diverse interests and capabilities of our student community.
“Pratibha” not only encouraged students to explore their creative sides but also fostered a spirit of healthy competition and self-expression. The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone inspired and proud of the budding talents within the SJIS family.

From 15th to 19th September 2025, SJIS collaborated with Dementia India Alliance to conduct a certification course for Nursing Aide students. Dr. Priya and her team trained students on dementia care, enhancing their knowledge and skills. Around 65 students successfully completed the course and received certificates.

On 16th September 2025, SJIS in collaboration with Magic Bus India Foundation inaugurated a new course on Life & Employability Skills. Designed for PUC and graduate students, the program focuses on life skills, interview techniques, and job-oriented guidance with assured placement opportunities.

On 11th September 2025, Carmel Convent, Jayanagar, organized Youth Day where SJIS hostel students participated enthusiastically in activities, games, and fellowship. The event fostered joy, interaction, and unity among the youth.

On 19th September 2025, SJIS organized an Awareness Program on Mobile Addiction. The resource person, Mrs. Vandana Shastry, engaged students with interactive activities highlighting the dangers of excessive mobile phone use and encouraging balanced, responsible technology habits.

On 9th September 2025, SJIS organized an Awareness Program on Health & Hygiene conducted by Oasis India. The session highlighted the importance of personal hygiene and healthy practices for overall well-being, preventing illnesses, and promoting lifestyle habits.

On August 25, 2025, SJIS organized an awareness program on sexual abuse for all female students. Mrs. Sangeetha from Oasis India guided the students with valuable insights and practical awareness. The program was welcomed by Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel and concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Sreelatha.

On 19th August 2025, SJIS organized an Awareness Program on Crime Prevention. Resource persons Mr. Vinay (Aarohan Foundation) and Mr. Venkatesh (VV Puram Police Station) discussed city crimes, the impact of drugs, and cybercrime prevention.
The session encouraged students to remain vigilant and responsible citizens.

On 16th August 2025, SJIS organized a one-day retreat for Catholic and Christian students. A team from Couples for Christ conducted the retreat, including Bible-based talks, Eucharistic Adoration, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The retreat concluded with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel Basu.
It was truly a moment of renewal and grace for the students.

The Formal Inauguration of the Academic Year 2025–2026 at SJIS was held on August 5, 2025, with Chief Guest Mr. Praveen Peter and Guest of Honour Rev. Fr. Xavier Alphonse, S.J. The event included lamp lighting, a prayer dance, Bible reading, Prayers of the Faithful, and the Annual Report presentation of 2024–2025.
Inspiring messages were delivered by the guests, highlighting resilience, skill development, and values of self-esteem, hard work, respect, and gratitude. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Rev. Fr. Deepak Joseph, SMM.

A thought-provoking Pro-Life Seminar was organized for the students of SJIS on July 25, 2025, in collaboration with the Family Welfare Centre of the Archdiocese of Bangalore. The session was conducted by Rev. Fr. Naveen Gladson and Rev. Fr. Sunny Richard, who addressed the students on the sanctity of life, Church teachings, and the importance of promoting a culture of life.
Rev. Fr. Vivek Lionel Basu, Principal and Director of SJIS, warmly welcomed the speakers and highlighted the relevance of the pro-life message for youth today. The seminar prompted students to reflect on ethical values, human dignity, and the role of faith in shaping a life-affirming worldview.

An exciting and enriching Workshop on Robotics was organized for the Electrical and Electronics students of SJIS on July 22, 2025, at Amazon, Malleswaram, Bengaluru. The students were guided by Mr. Pratap Babu, tutor for Electrical & Electronics, who accompanied and mentored them throughout the workshop.
Hosted by industry experts from Amazon, the workshop offered a hands-on introduction to robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence. Students witnessed live demonstrations of robotic systems, learned about their components and functions, and explored real-time applications in logistics and industrial automation.
This exposure to cutting-edge technology inspired students to think innovatively and deepened their understanding of the future of electronics and automation.

As part of its commitment to skill-based and practical learning, SJIS organized a CPR training session for nursing students on July 12, 2025, at TCM Royan Hospital. The training was led by experienced healthcare professionals who guided the students through essential life-saving techniques, including chest compressions, rescue breathing, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The session combined both theoretical insights and hands-on practice using CPR mannequins, ensuring that students gained a clear understanding of emergency response procedures. The interactive nature of the session helped students build confidence and competence in handling real-life medical emergencies.
This initiative reflects SJIS’s mission to provide industry-relevant and high-quality training that prepares students for the demands of the healthcare profession.

The informal inauguration of the Academic Year 2025–2026 at St. Joseph’s Institute of Skills (SJIS) was marked by a simple yet meaningful gathering. The program commenced with a brief introduction, followed by a soulful prayer song that set a reverent tone for the occasion. A Bible reading was proclaimed, and the Prayers of the Faithful were offered, invoking God’s blessings on the students, staff, and the institute’s journey ahead.
Rev. Fr. Deepak Joseph, SMM, then took the stage to offer a brief yet insightful glimpse into the life and mission of SJIS. He shared about the institute's humble beginnings, its growth over the years, and its steadfast commitment to transforming lives through skill development, especially among the underprivileged. He also highlighted the mission and vision of SJIS, rooted in the spirit of inclusion and empowerment.
Fr. Deepak further introduced the dedicated staff and faculty of SJIS to the students, acknowledging their role in guiding and shaping the learners through their commitment and expertise. This helped foster a sense of connection and community among the new batch of students.
The program also featured a short video presentation, creatively showcasing the various activities, milestones, and impact of SJIS. The visuals gave a deeper understanding of the institute’s objectives, achievements, and the vibrant learning environment it nurtures.
